With Samsung Super League, Samsung confirms its commitment to sports marketing in the lead up to the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games

Hickstead, 22nd July 2004: 23 days before the Opening Ceremony of ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games, Samsung, Worldwide Wireless Communications Equipment Partner for the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games and ATHENS 2004 Olympic Torch Relay, today presents, with FEI, Samsung Super League.

Samsung Super League is the Elite Series of Samsung Nations Cup where the eight best national teams, selected on the basis of the results of the team competition at the previous year World Equestrian Games and Nations Cup competitions from March to October, compete against each other.

Samsung Super League (SSL) is supported by a Samsung initiative for young people called the Samsung Super League Supporters Club. Formed in 2003, the Club was a great success in its first year, when it gave the chance for horse fans from all over Europe to be guests at an all-inclusive day at the Samsung Super League event, courtesy of Samsung.

Hickstead, along with the Rome and Barcelona events, is where SSL Supporters get the chance to become involved in the action and watch the competition from an exclusive position while enjoying a uniquely memorable experience. All young European fans who want to have the chance to be part of this exciting event in the future can join the SSL Supporters Club via the website at www.sslsupporters.com.

As a Title Sponsor of the most prestigious equestrian competition, Samsung confirms its commitment as an active sponsor of major sport events like the Olympic Games which Samsung has been supporting since 1997.

As the Olympic partner for the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games, Samsung has organised a series of marketing initiatives designed to drive awareness of its involvement with the Olympic Movement and allow sports fans around the world the opportunity to share the Olympic spirit and excitement in the lead up to and during the Games, while reinforcing the company’s reputation and commitment to responsible corporate citizenship and global friendship.

The company believes in sport sponsorship as one of the many ways of “Contributing to mankind and the community” which is its corporate philosophy.

The company is dedicated to returning corporate profits to the public, and to helping create a more harmonious global society through the positive values of sport. Current sponsorships include amateur and professional sporting events, training programmes, sports teams, and individual athletes both in Korea and around the world. Such affiliations have enhanced Samsung’s brand awareness and elevated its reputation for excellence in corporate citizenship, while at the same time helping to build a strong global society.

Samsung is also a Presenting Partner of the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Torch Relay, the first ever global torch relay that has taken the Olympic Flame of ATHENS 2004 Games around the world for 35 days. The Flame has now returned to its birth place after 108 years and is currently on the Greek Torch Relay.

Each ‘Samsung Athlete Ambassador’ had the privilege of carrying the Olympic flame in their respective country as part of the five continents run which will end in Athens to signal the opening of the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games on 13th of August.

Cathy Freeman, the last Olympic Torchbearer at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and Australian Olympic Gold medallist, inaugurated the flame in Sydney as the first Olympic Torchbearer for the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games and is Samsung’s Global Athletic Ambassador.
